Sunflowers and tutus

I finally did it! Today, I made myself finish the flower girls’ dresses for my sister’s wedding. I have a complete lack of motivation here lately. Some kind of weird funk I seriously need to get out of.

So this morning I drank an extra big cup of coffee and made it happen. I am so glad because these things are absolutely adorable! I can not wait until July to see the girls wear them.

wpid-20150427_165548.jpgWe had to clean Hobby Lobby out of all their yellow spools of tulle twice. Thankfully, they only had a few of each, making us use 3 different colors. They would have definitely not turned out as pretty as they are if we had just went with one color like we had planned. Unexpected roadblock that turned out to be AWESOME!

12 weeks and 2 days left! Now on to some headbands!

Cabbage, Bacon, and Yumminess

I absolutely LOVE cabbage! Baked, boiled, grilled, fried…any way you cook it, I LOVE it!

But, this is my most favorite cabbage recipe of all. Thanks to The Biker Chick’s Kitchen for this most AMAZING Southern Fried Cabbage!

The Biker Chick’s Kitchen
Southern Fried Cabbage
Serve 4 (or 2 hungry bikers)
5-6 strips of bacon
1 head cabbage, sliced
1 onion, diced
¼ cup chicken broth (I use low sodium broth)
1 tsp vinegar (optional)
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
In large skillet, (I use cast iron) fry the bacon until crispy, remove to a paper towel to drain
Place chopped cabbage and onion in the skillet with the bacon fat over medium heat and cook until it begins to wilt a bit
Crumble the bacon and add to the pan
Add in the chicken stock, vinegar, salt and pepper, cover and allow it to simmer for 10 minutes
Serve hot (try adding some diced apples, sliced sausage, noodles, or what ever tickles your fancy)

This is complete yummy goodness! And it’s what’s on the menu tonight served with smoked sausage!

When did this happen?

So today we went and got my baby boy fitted for his tux for the wedding. His first tux!

When the heck did this happen?

He looks so grown up!

Slow down, PLEASE!!

I remember, it was just yesterday, bringing him home. He was so cute and tiny! When he rolled over, his first words, his first steps, his first day of school, his first fight, his first little girlfriend…all these things are stuck in a file folder labeled ‘Hunter’ in my head.

But, here he is, almost 13. Looking all grown up and getting ready to walk my ‘baby’ sister down the aisle.

How does this happen so very fast?

What’s for dinner?

Chores in our house are always so crazy! Yes, we have a chore chart and we have been doing them the same way for over 6 months now. But, it seems like there is still always so much confusion.

So last week when I added ‘HELP WITH DINNER’ to the list, I was kinda worried. Mostly about what kind of mess there would be. And is she/he not going to eat that because he/she cooked it or he/she touched it?  This is one of the main issues in our house right now! Put five kids in the same house and it’s bound to happen. I am guessing it is an age thing?

But, I have to say, I am pretty impressed with the skills going on these days in our kitchen. And the lack of fighting over dinner, well somewhat.

Like this guy right here! He has never really just jumped up and helped with dinner. It’s just not his thing. Imagine my surprise, I’m in the living room hearing noises in the kitchen, go in there and he is cooking! He did it all! From getting out pans to adding water and noodles to cutting and buttering the bread, adding sauce, and fixing the plates. This kid even took the bread out of the oven!

And I’d say he did a pretty good job! No complaints from anyone about this spaghetti!

Then there is this girl, she has been helping in the kitchen for a couple years now. It seems to be her thing, cooking and baking.

She is turning into a master of the kitchen! Cooking meat, cutting tomatoes, shredding lettuce, fixing plates. This girl does it all!

And from the looks of this Taco salad, I won’t have to worry about her not eating because she can’t cook.

Adding ‘HELP WITH DINNER’ to their chores was most definitely an awesome idea! These kids totally surprise me almost everyday! I can’t wait to see what’s for dinner when it comes around to Katie’s dinner night!

My current situation!

So, my baby sister is getting married in July!

Crazy to think she is even old enough to drive or have a job, let alone get married! But the fact is, she is and will actually be 27 this year!

Holy cow! Where did the time go?

Isn’t she so pretty? There’s 9 1/2 years between us, she is kinda like one of my babies. Yes, I am very proud of her!

I’d do just about anything she asked. Which explains my current situation!

Flowers and ribbon for daisy crowns for 3 flower girls. Tulle, ribbon, and flowers for 3 flower girl dresses. Ribbon, twine, flowers, wire, and pieces for the cake topper and to decorate the cake. And fabric for quilt tops for 100 hay bales, yes 100!

Today was my day to work! The mechanic is away for work. So today was the perfect work day, right?

I am totally and completely distracted!

By what?

By this one, who wants to just sit and drink a cup of coffee with his Momma! I know, coffee…BAD!

And this one, who wants to lay in bed just a little bit longer. Who could tell that face no? Not me!

And this one, who just wants to play with her barn.

I know! She actually has on clothes! Score for Momma today!

This one, who wants me to PLEASE check all the extra schoolwork she has done today. She just knows she can get finished with 2nd grade early!

And then there is this one! I mean how long can you play The Voice on the xBox?

The past 3 hours, that’s how long!

So while it hasn’t been a productive wedding work day, it has been an amazing day enjoying time with the kiddos. And that’s what makes life great, right?

Here’s to a more productive work day tomorrow!

Because sometimes, you just gotta! #2

After this crazy day, it is nice to just stop and breathe!

Because sometimes, you just gotta buy and wear a big floppy hat! She has been after one of these FOREVER!

And sometimes, you just gotta pretend to drive the boat! Even if there is no water, motor, or seat!

Because sometimes, you just gotta eat breakfast with the LPS!

And with the dinosaurs!

Because sometimes, you just gotta play the drums! Who doesn’t LOVE a baby who can play the drums and tambourine?

Because sometimes, you just gotta laugh out loud! My mom is in town and this is the first time the baby has let her hold her.

Because sometimes, you just gotta chill out on a tree branch! The squirrels in my yard are always so funny and weird!

Because sometimes, we just need to take pictures!

And pose with our Momma!

And sometimes, you just gotta get your feet muddy! Mud is definitely a happy thing!

You take the good, you take the bad

So today has definitely been one of those days! You know, the ones where you question all your parenting skills.

Did I do this and that right? Did I do the right thing, taking them out of school away from other people to homeschool? Am I really able to teach them all they need to know? Are they really learning? Is it my fault they can’t get along? Is that the right punishment? If I take away their electronics, does that mean I should give mine up too?

Momma needs a time out!!

I wish everyday could just be all about fun! No problems! No worries! No fighting! Yes, I realize that’s just not how life works!

You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have…The Facts of Life!

And no, the whole day hasn’t been completely bad. We had a great walk this morning, a nice breakfast, and danced around the living room to some Uptown Funk!

Maybe it was the rainy afternoon? Who knows? I certainly don’t! But the fact is, you do have to take the good with the bad! No, they are not going to be perfect! Yes, they have worries and doubts and concerns. Yes, they are only human and so not perfect. But together, through all the chaos, fighting, worries, and imperfections…we make a great team and are perfectly perfect together! And I wouldn’t take away any of my days with them. Good days, bad days…they are all good as long as we are together!

So here’s hoping for a better day tomorrow!

Because 36 ain’t that bad!

So yesterday was it, the day I turned 36! A little closer to 40. A little further away from 30. I have to admit, the thought of it scared me at first. But then, I realized, it is only a number!

Does my body hurt? YES, almost every single day!

Do I have to go to sleep earlier then I used to? YES, I am just so tired!

Is my hair starting to turn grey? YES, that one dang strand screams at me every time I look in the mirror!

Am I starting to get wrinkles? YES, that old lady neck is just right around the corner!

But, then I realized a few things!

Do I feel old? NO, no I don’t! Actually, I feel pretty amazing most days!

Have I lost my sense of humor? NOPE! I laugh several times a day!

Do my kids out run me? NO, sometimes they can’t keep up with me!

Have I officially made it into the uncool club? NO, I have not! I think I am pretty darn AWESOME!

I may technically be getting old but I can still have fun and enjoy my kids! I do LOVE them all so much!

I can still see to read some AWESOME books!

I can still rock the king Mr. George Strait!

And rock out to some Chains with Nick Jonas!

And I get to spend all my old lady days with a man I am totally in LOVE with!

Who buys me a new smaller, easier to carry everywhere, touch screen laptop to blog on! And every year bakes me a yellow cake with chocolate frosting and my favorite sprinkles!

So maybe, just maybe, 36 ain’t that bad after all!

Broccoli and Cheese Stuffed Chicken

I found this recipe on Facebook and it is yummy! We do leave out the flax seed, but other then that, everything else is the same.

Broccoli & Cheese Stuffed Chicken!

1 small crown of broccoli
3 chicken breasts
Mrs. Dash Garlic & Herb
3 Tbsp shredded sharp cheddar cheese
3 Tbsp fat-free cream cheese
3 Tbsp ground flax seed
Spray oil (I used olive oil)

Preheat oven to 400°

Spray baking dish with oil

Chop broccoli into small pieces

Wrap chicken breasts in plastic wrap and pound to less than 1/2 inch thickness with a meat-mallet

Sprinkle both sides of chicken with Mrs Dash, then turn so the “inside” is up.

Spread each breast with 1 Tbsp fat-free cream cheese

Sprinkle each breast with 1 Tbsp sharp-cheddar

Divide the broccoli among the breasts

Carefully roll up each breast, beginning with wide end, pressing filling in as needed

Use toothpicks to hold breasts in place

Sprinkle each breast with Mrs Dash, and 1 Tbsp ground flax seed

Bake at 400° for 30 minutes or until a meat thermometer reads 170° internal temperature.

Hope you enjoy and happy eating!

What a Fabulous Week!

Yes, this week has been a fabulous one! Cleaning the garage today was an absolute success. Let me just say, there is a truck in the garage and this is the first Friday night I have spent on the couch alone in a while.

This week has brought lots of good stuff!

My roses in the front yard are blooming like crazy.

Miss Reagan Jayne FINALLY taking a bath without crying! All babies can not be like this, right? My babies don’t like baths!

Katie using her wooden model thingy for drawing! She is definitely my artist!

A whole bunch of playing!

And more playing…

A great craft project! More to come on that next week.

Finally got this bench in the house, it was in the garage! A great yard sale find.

And today ends with a GREAT dinner. One of my new favorites, Broccoli and Cheese Stuffed Chicken. Recipe will be posted soon!

Now it’s just me, some Jurassic Park on the t.v. followed by The Amazing Spider-Man. I could be just a bit geeky. And something I haven’t had out in quite awhile…my crochet hooks and yarn!

I’d say this is a pretty fabulous way to end the week. All kids are quiet, the baby asleep and Momma gets to just relax! Happy weekend all!
